Week 20 "Toys"

This is vintage Mickey. I don't know how old it is but it was my bank growing up (until last year when Clara took it over). The sticker falling off the right ear pretty much explains it's functionality: "I'm a bank with a moveable arm." Brilliant.

WEEK 10 "silhouette"

I also had a hard time getting a sunset until Monday night on Five Mile there was a quick window so I forced my pregnant wife to be my subject. The foreground lighting was trickier than I anticipated so I ended up just keeping the image that had no foreground lighting (easy solution). This picture could have been a lot cooler but still a beautiful sunset mixed with a beautiful subject.

Better late than never- since Dan posted two pictures I will as well. Not nearly as dramatic but it's all the light I could find when climbing between 9-10,000 feet. When I think of black and white photography I think of great contrast and/or great content. Since color is removed the other aspects of the photograph must be exceptional. I love the shapes in this picture that I took at The Fray concert and the contrast in lighting.

Well i guess I'm cheating a little bit....This wasn't taken last week, but already falling behind on the first assignment, (low light) i decided to put in this pic of the Monroe St. Bridge that i took a month ago. Its my first HDR pic taken at sunset. From here on out i will only post pics that i have taken the previous week! Scouts honor.

Week 1- Low Lighting

Welcome to the blog about learning and appreciating the art of taking pictures. This site was created to keep two amateur photographers accountable in improving their capabilities with a camera, as well as simply sharing art. The goal is to make one post every week and complete "assignments" that expand our knowledge of photography.

Week 1 - Low Lighting

I took this picture this past week at Priest Lake from the North end of the lake (Grandview Resort). The sun had set and the wind had died down leaving a stillness to this dock. I love landscape shots in low lighting because of the soft colors that are so evident before all light is lost.
